Sacred Teachings
The Seven Sacred Teachings
The Seven Sacred Teachings represent guiding principles for living in harmony with oneself, others, and the natural world. Each of these teachings has both a light and a dark side, representing values that guide us toward balance and harmony. Also known as the “twins,” these teachings reveal the duality of human nature and the choices we make.
1. Respect and Greed
Respect means valuing all of Creation, including people and the Earth, by showing understanding and care. Greed is the absence of respect. It is driven by selfishness and disregards the needs of others, leading to negative impacts on both people and the environment.
2. Love and Fear
Love is connected to peace and is expressed through kindness and generosity without expecting anything in return. Fear is the opposite, as it causes people to see others as threats or possessions, creating a sense of insecurity and control.
3. Wisdom and Ignorance
Wisdom comes from keeping an open mind, understanding right from wrong, and considering the consequences of actions.Ignorance involves closed-mindedness and an unwillingness to understand others, which can contribute to discrimination and prejudice.
4. Bravery and Cowardice
Bravery is about standing up for what is right with integrity, even when it goes against popular opinion. It requires taking meaningful action rather than remaining passive. Cowardice is the reluctance to take a stand, often leading people to follow harmful behaviors or stay silent in situations where action is needed.
5. Honesty and Lies
Honesty means being true to oneself, knowing one’s values, and striving to improve. It encourages self-reflection and change when needed. Lies, on the other hand, involve self-deception and avoiding the truth, often resulting in complacency and resistance to change.
6. Humility and Pride
Humility involves recognizing oneself as part of a greater whole and appreciating the interconnectedness of all beings. It encourages curiosity and learning while rejecting superiority over others. Pride is the opposite, as it seeks external validation and prioritizes ego, even when it is undeserved.
7. Truth and Selfishness
Truth is the foundation of all teachings and means living with integrity, accepting imperfections, and making amends when necessary. Selfishness is the opposite, as it prioritizes personal desires while disregarding others.
